At Canning Street, getting children reading is of the highest priority. When children can read, the whole world is opened up to them. Our Reception staff, therefore, have a huge and important job in helping children to recognise and learn their letters and the sounds they make. 

We are always keen to help parents support in their children's learning at home. We know that many of you did not learn to read in the same way children do now, so helping your child can seem tricky. Take a look at the video below at Miss Young teaching a phonics lesson. If you would like to try practising phonics with your child at home, please speak to Miss Young or Miss Cook and they would be extremely happy to provide you with advice and resources.
