Year One - Autumn Term
Welcome to Year 1!
The children are settling in well and have had a very busy first few weeks.
Our class story this half-term is One Snowy Night. We have looked closely at the different animals in the story and made predictions about what could be hiding under the floorboards. We were all very surprised to find out that it was a tiny animal called a mole. Now we are using what we know about these animals to help us write labels, lists and simple captions.
In Maths, we have been working on our knowledge of numbers to 10 by counting forwards and backwards, finding one more and one less and representing numerals using objects, tens frames and number tracks. We are now starting to use the words more, less and the same to compare and order different numbers .
We are also really enjoying learning about The Great Fire of London, which happened in 1666. We had some great ideas about how the fire might have started - some of us even thought a dragon might have been responsible! We now know that it started in a bakery on Pudding Lane and spread very, very quickly! Soon we will find out how the fire was eventually put out.
We love reading in Year 1 so please make sure that your child brings their book bag with them every day. This means they will be able to read regularly in school as well as at home.
