Debating Champions!
On 5th July, the Year 5 debating team took part in the annual debating competition between the schools in the West End Schools’ Trust at the Civic Centre. Our motion for debate was:
Should the Queen continue to reign at 96 years, or should the heir to the throne succeed her?
Our position was to argue ‘for’ the motion, and the team were superb! Our speakers were clear and convincing, excellent questions were asked of the other team, and there was some excellent team work as they worked hard to answer questions concisely and confidently.
The debate took place in the council chambers – where our elected councillors meet to make decisions about our city – and it felt so important sitting in the green leather chairs!
Our hard work and preparation paid off because we won, not only our debate, but out of the whole trust! Well done Canning Street!
