Seven Stories Families Reading Together Project

Seven Stories Families Reading Together Project in Reception

Seven Stories are the national centre for books in this country and they have been working with children and their families in Reception to develop a love of sharing stories.

All the children enjoyed a story party where two books were shared, alongside lots of singing, dancing, fun and games which helped the children understand and engage with the stories.

Following on from the story parties, fifteen children and their parents were invited to join the Families Reading Together workshops with Natasha, a creative facilitator from Seven Stories.  These workshops were a great way for parents to learn about sharing a story, how to have fun with a story and thinking games and activities that could be used to bring stories to life at home.

Parents were very enthusiastic and enjoyed getting dressed up as the story characters, singing funny songs and playing games with their children that were all linked to the story.

The parents then planned a range of activities for the children to enjoy on a visit to Seven Stories where they read books about bears and explored the bear’s gallery. Parents were impressed with Seven Stories and enjoyed the workshop sessions in school.

Parents commented that the programme has helped them to enjoy sharing stories at home and as a group of parents they are keen to continue sharing their ideas and love of reading throughout school now. So watch this space for some exciting reading events happening in school this year!
