Community Foundation Grant Award for Raspberry Pi Computers

17th November 2016

Canning Street Primary School are very pleased to be the first North East school to receive a grant to purchase some amazing single board computers developed to promote the teaching of basic computer science; the Raspberry Pi!

The grant was generously awarded by the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland’s school grants scheme and local philanthropist, Tony Platten’s Platten Family Fund to realise Mr Platten’s vision of inspiring a new generation of North East engineers!

Local MP Chi Onwurah and Sandra King, the Community Foundation’s Chief Philanthropy Officer, joined us last week to celebrate this award and our IT Coordinator, Miss Cook appeared on BBC Look North to share our good news.

We would like to thank Mr Platten and the Community Foundation for this grant, it is much appreciated and we are looking forward to sharing examples of our computer science and coding work that we will produce using our Raspberry Pis.
