Attendance Information

School Attendance

Every day counts! Children are expected to attend school on time every day. If your child is absent from school you must let the school office know why, either in person or by telephoning school before 10:00 am.

Please make children's appointments for Doctors, Dentist and Opticians outside of school hours.

Holidays should not be taken during term time.  Please think carefully before planning a family holiday or an extended trip overseas during term time. Research suggests that children who are taken out of school may never catch up on work they have missed. This may affect test results and can be particularly harmful if the child is studying for tests or exams.

By law, you must ask in advance for permission for your child to miss school, however, we are not obliged to authorise this and parents who take their child on holiday during term time may be issued with a penalty notice.

Please arrange trips to coincide with school holidays, see the School Term Dates below.

At Canning Street we have very high expectations for attendance and we like to reward children who come to school every day, on time. Each week, every teacher will pick an Attendance Star from their class. This will be someone who has been to school every single day for the last week and not been late. That person will be allowed to select a prize from the top tier of the shelves.
At the end of each term, teachers will select an Attendance Star of the Term, who will be able to choose a bigger prize from the second tier of prizes. Finally, at the end of the year, each teacher will select an Attendance Star of the Term, and they will win an exciting prize that is currently Top Secret!
We hope the children enjoy the challenge of improving their attendance week on week.
